I have no clue what I am getting myself into. This is the hardest thing I ever had to do, at least physically. I had to wake up really at 6 freaking am Run/ walk to San Luiis, the town is full of farms and is mostly rural places. It took 8 km/4.9miles going there and then plus 4km/2.5 so a total of 12 miles I think. I want to say its that far because it sure felt that way. On the way back was extremely hot but I walked with Jill so it wasn’t so bad. I felt so accomplished! My feet was screaming to give it it some good lovin later. I went to Stella’s which was nice sitting outside and working on my project and came home to some Gaucho girls that had dinner with us. I felt so awkward because they are able to speak more Spanish. But after today talking to the guy that helped me find the bugs made me feel good knowing I can hold a conversation for at least 10 minutes with a random guy.
Today, I ran all the way to the Coop and then back to the hill. I couldn’t run the hill because I was so sore from yesterday and hiking up to the TV towers. Then I ate eggs and papaya for breakfast and packed some left over things. We said our goodbyes to everyone before we went our separate ways. Some went to Penas Blancas, which was mostly the guys, 23 year olds and most of the people I don’t really talk to. More of my favorite people went to Cuajiniqual, including Diem, Thea, Evan and Krystina. I felt no out of saddness when the group to Penas Blancas and slight sadness when Cuajiniqual people left. But when Sam left for San Jose, I wanted to cry a little. She is the one person I have trusted throughout this whole trip and really bonded with. I got dropped off at this interesting Art gallery which turned out to be just a downstairs studio to a house upstairs, my new home for the next 2 weeks. I met my homestay dad, Marco, who would look like a Marco. He has small Latino afro and a face, stature and personality of an artist. His artwork is beautiful! He designed the structure of the cosy home. Everything is mostly made up of wood, when entering there is an overarching threshold that encases many books, many open windows that has the sunlight brighten the whole house, small, artsy antiques settled everywhere. It is a typical home with a Costa Rican twist. The couple has one daughter named Niella, who is a little chubster of four years old. She reminds me of me sometimes. She was shy at first but got more comfortable around me. She loves to eat and ate every morsel and whatever ort of tuna and rice that what cooked just for her. It was great playing with her because I learned new words in spanish while she is practicing how to read and write herself. I met Christina for lunch when she came home to eat. Most of the Costa Rican families like to eat meals together which I find amazing in comparison to the States. This demonstrates our lack of community unity or family unity. Christina, herself, is an enthusiastic Spanish Institute and is very patient with my slow speaking spanish.
I went to help them grocery shop in Santa Elena, took the bus there and experienced public transportation in Costa Rica for the first time. good day
Today, I worked on my proposal for my Research from 9-12pm. I feel relieved talking to Fredrico because he helped clarify my question. I feel more at ease knowing that we would have a week with our instructors and they can help me collect the insects. We ate chips, beans and salad for lunch. Worked on my proposal again till 3 hours. We hiked an hour and a half to the tv towers. The sight was astoundingly remarkable. The view overlooked the whole cloud forest and looked so surreal. It really owns to its name as the cloud forest because it makes you just want t jump and hope that the canopy or cloud of trees would catch you. It was breathtaking. We then hiked/ran down a steep hill back and I ran up the hill back to the station. Ate vegetables, little piece of chicken, vanilla ice cream and banana bread. Packed my things for tomorrow, talked to Charles and daddy finally but not for long. Then headed out for the carnival. It was a typical carnival with rides, churros, COSTA RICAN FRESH CORN TORTILLAS made out of REAL CORN, cotton candy BUT there was a bullriding with REAL bulls. We didn’t get do go because we aren’t allowed but walking around, trying the corn tortillas and this donut lemon cake ball drizzled with condense milk was good. Then we speed walked back and now I am here. Fulfilling amazing, productive day. Well worth it with good company.
